Mother Caroline Students Spread the Peace | Not in Our Town

Mother Caroline Students Spread the Peace

Grade Level:
Middle School (6-8)

Ariana's brother was killed in a drive-by shooting. Most of her classmates at Mother Caroline Academy in Dorchester, Massachusetts, have been affected by violence. After watching "Not In Our Town" in a Facing History class, Ariana and her peers launch their own neighborhood “Spread the Peace” campaign to help stop the violence. (11:23)

Discussion Questions:

  1. Mahatma Gandhi advised “Be the change you want to see in the world.”  How do the students and teachers in the video exemplify this idea?
  2. If the violence in their community persists despite the efforts made by the students from Mother Caroline, do you still think that they were successful? Why or why not?
  3. The students profiled in the video have faced a lot of adversity, loss and violence. Their Principal stated that she feels these experiences have made them even more motivated to succeed in school and life. What lesson do you feel this could offer to all young people, regardless of economic, racial, religious or cultural background?

I just want to suggest the group that there are very high chances to get the success with non violence and peace. You can study Mahatma Gandhi's Ideas, experiences &  principles. Because he was the man who joint the diversified million of people in one knot with the principle of non violence. You can even have some feelings about him with  quotes by mahatma gandhi. I can write some of them here also:

  1. "There is no path to peace. Peace is the path."
  2. "Hate the sin, love the sinner."
  3. "Victory attained by violence is tantamount to a defeat, for it is momentary."

So i suggest follow the path of peace. beacause even thogh it may take a long time to win but that will be stable for very very long time.

Beautiful comment. Thanks @allpopular.
