Twenty years ago, the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard shocked the nation and ignited the federal hate crime legislation which bears his name. Three Conversations uses the actual words of three ordinary citizens whose lives were impacted by the murder case to bring this tragic story out of Laramie, Wyoming to life. 

Tickets for this staged reading are $20, and benefit the Terra Nova High School Gay Straight Alliance, NOT IN OUR TOWN, and Pacifica Spindrift Players.

Facing Immigrants, Facing Ourselves

January 12, 2020 - Osher Marin JCC Taube Center for Jewish Peoplehood, San Rafael, CA 1-4 pm 

An exploration of California’s history of immigration and exclusion, the current reality for immigrants in our community, and ideas for tangible action that we can take on behalf of vulnerable immigrants in Marin. Join us for an afternoon of learning, listening, and sharing our collective immigration stories. Come hear about what is happening in Marin County right now, and walk away with ways in which you can make a difference in your community today. You will have the opportunity to share your family’s immigration story, and hear from others, in a safe, intimate setting. Please consider bringing a small artifact (photo, recipe, etc.) that represents your family’s point of origin. Free, advance registration required. 

Facing Immigrants, Facing Ourselves is a collaborative project in partnership with HAMAQOM |The Place, Congregation Kol Shofar, Congregation Rodef Sholom’s Immigrant Rights Team, the Canal Alliance, Jewish Community Relations Council, Marin Interfaith Council, the Multicultural Center of Marin, the Marin Asian Association, NIOT and the Osher Marin JCC.

NIOT Bowling Green Monthly Meeting

Oct. 3, 2019

The monthly general meeting of Not In Our Town BG will be held at Bowling Green Municipal Building, Council Chambers, 304 North Church Street at 3:00 pm. The gathering is open to community and campus public participation and input.  Those present will review events of the past month, hear reports of current activities, and consider issues to address and opportunities to build a more safe, respectful and inclusive community.

Learn what you can do to fight hate in your community. Discover how, after a local Latino immigrant was killed in a hate crime attack, residents in one town came together to heal and create a safe and welcoming community for all. Welcoming Week in Bend

Sept. 17, 2019, 5:30 - 7:30 PM

How can we make Bend a safe place to live for migrant and other marginalized communities? Combating Hate in Bend will be an educational event with the goal of bringing marginalized and privileged communities here in Bend together to create pathways for action. The evening will begin with a screening of Not In Our Town: Light in the Darkness. A panel discussion will follow. The night will conclude with an Action Session in which audience members will be called upon to develop a path forward towards making Bend a more welcoming and inclusive place to live.

Marin DA Office: Community Conversation

Sept. 13, 2019, 12 to 1 p.m., Board of Supervisors’ Chambers, Civic Center Room 330

The District Attorney’s Office is sponsoring an event for our “Civic Center Community”: Affinity Groups, Employees, Contractors and Members of the Public. Filmmaker, Patrice O’Neil and DA, Lori Frugoli will be in attendance. Come watch the documentary and be a part of the change.
