I am a teacher in the Lake Washington School district in Washington State. The school I teach in is one I helped to create. Lake Washington School District is known for having many different options or choices of types of programs families in our community may take advantage of for their children. My school, The School of Art and Reasoning is one of these options that families with junior high/middle school aged students. We focus on developing critical and creative thinkers in our students. I teach 8th grade english and American history from 1877-present, 9th grade World History focusing on India, Pakistan, China, and Mexico. I also teach the performing arts in our school to all grades, including dance and drama. I earned my teaching certificate in June of 1999. I have also taught in our district's drop-out prevention program. In all the schools I have worked at, tolerance and, more improtantly for me, acceptance has been a focus of mine.
I am married (13 years) and have two girls ages 5 and 6 months. It is so important to me to do all I can do in my professional and personal capactieis to ensure that my children, and the children of others, have a brighter more peaceful world to live in than I have.
