New Videos and Resources: Transgender Resources for Law Enforcement

A still from "Working Together to Protect the Trans Community," a training video from the LA County Sheriff's Department.

When members from the transgender community speak out and share their unique experiences and personal challenges, they spread awareness of issues important to the transgender community, spark dialogue and discussion, and serve as support systems and sources of healing for those impacted by incidences of hate.

In order to be a part of this dialogue and share tools that can aid law enforcement, we have created a resource page for law enforcement agencies on how to best interact and engage with the transgender community. On this page are relevant blogs, videos, and guides that show how transgender communities work to find solutions to issues of hate, as well as build more inclusive communities.

Of the videos featured on this page, three are brand new videos. Two of these videos feature transgender advocate Mia Tu Mutch as she relays her own personal struggles and provides advice for law enforcement on how to engage with and establish relationships with the transgender community. The third video is an in-service training video produced for law enforcement agencies working with the transgender community. It features officers from the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and the San Diego Police Department.
