Breaking Barriers: Bloomington-Normal Hosts Community and Police Dialogue

Not In Our Town Bloomington Normal

The Not In Our Town Bloomington/Normal group will host a police and community dialogue later this month, aiming to raise conversation in the twin cities about police practices, procedures and policies.

The event comes on the heels of the veteran group's proclamation and pledge campaign, as well as national dialogue about police-community relations in the wake of events in Ferguson, MO. The "Breaking Barriers" event is billed as an opportunity to "help law enforcement serve you - and your rights." Pastor William Bennett will moderate the discussion, and Spanish translation will also be provided by local group, Conexiones Latinas.

Not In Our Town Bloomington/Normal brings together an impressive list of co-sponsors for the event, including the NAACP, Minority Police Partnership, the League of Women Voters, the local and university police departments, the county sheriff's department and state's attorney, and more.

In order to address citizen concerns, the group is offering an online survey so people can anonymously ask questions and raise issues.
