The Not In Our School Learning Community Workshop Series is a new initiative that launches with a kick-off free workshop in August with more workshops planned for the fall.

Not In Our Town hosted three workshops for teachers earlier this Spring. The stories we heard from teachers about the challenges they are facing were both disturbing and inspiring. How can teachers support their students in standing up to hate and bias in school and in their daily lives?

We would like to invite educators in NIOT communities to join a monthly series of professional development workshops to address this question and share strategies for building a culture of inclusion and belonging in the classroom.

Topics:

  • How to Launch a Not In Our School Campaign
  • Bullying Prevention: Creating Safe Schools
  • 'Repairing the World' screening and discussion
  • Countering Hate and Bias: Identity Affirming Classrooms
  • United Against Hate Week - Get Involved
  • Building CommUNITY: Promoting Civil Discourse
  • Countering Hate & Bias in the Classroom

Presenters: Mary Sok and Jamie Lott-Jones

Credentials: Educators Watchung Hills Regional High School; Professors at Kean University; Executive Board Members for the Diversity Council for Global Education and Citizenship
