Why I started this group

Many of the bigoted lies that dominate the national narrative are being incubated here. The militia-movement oriented groups are gaining popularity here and this group can become counter-weight to that negative influence.

Is the Austin group active?

I'd like to be involved in any activities planned to develop awareness of different religions in our town, or meetings of different groups to increase understanding and cooperation.

To be honest, after I formed the Austin group, there was only one other person who joined. I went to a an pro-DREAM act/anti-SB1070 rally at the Capitol and tried to drum up more members but no one replied back.   I wish I could tell you that there are activities planned and members involved, but unfortunately there really aren't.

I have some ideas, like contacting some religious leaders of the Muslim community and the Universalist church (they are very progressive) but without a group participating or an external event motivating other like minded people to do the same, it's hard to get a demonstration together.

I would greatly appreciate some new members, or new ideas or your involvement, because frankly, I've been a little disheartened considering this is Austin we're talking about.   Please reply back with your thoughts and suggestions.

Thank you,

George
