Arlington, VA: A Virginia legislator introduces a bill to make attacks on the homeless a hate crime in his state. A similar initiative is underway in Florida, which leads the nation in attacks on homeless people.
Nelsonville, OH: Hocking College in southeastern Ohio vows to remain open despite graffiti threatening that African American students would be killed on Feb. 2.
St. Cloud, MN: Muslims protest “weak response” to anti-Islamic graffiti, which they fear will lead to bias attacks, but police and prosecutors say their hands are tied because Minnesota has no hate crime legislation.
